Good day all! Launched from the Chelan State Park about 9:00 A.M., little dicey with the water down. Motored up by the yacht club and started in about 150 feet of water. One rod with Ace-Hi fly and other a herring stuffed Brad's cutplug. I thought staying close to bottom with the downriggers would be a piece of cake but it was a lot of work. Tried for a couple hours in that section with Faltfish, flasher-squid tipped with herring, and what we started with to no avail.
moved down the other side of Wapato point stating in 150 fow and worked our way out to 200 fow. Missed a couple down deep and a couple on the flatlines rigged with needlefish. Finally got one to stick at 200 feet, daughter landed her first Mac, about three pounds. The fish came on Protroll flasher with a squid tipped with herring around 2:00 P.M. Missed one other and left the lake around 3:00 to make the journey back to Moses Lake. Was a little worried about getting out due to the end of the launch being 10 feet away from the water. Made it through the sand, no worries.
Weather was perfect, shed the jacket around 10:00 and water was like glass most of the day. Looks like I need to put some time in to learn about this lake. Beautiful scenery with crystal clear waters. I knew I should have jumped on a guide service Christmas special, maybe next year. All in all, good day on the water and the kids had a good time.
