I made it today to fish with my good friend Josh Realme at the Quincy lake's Burke lake but the morning bite was super slow due to a lingering cold front. There were only 5 smallish trout caught among 5 bank anglers and i got just 1 as well. Later I transitioned over to Evergreen Reservoir to see if the yellow perch were in their pre spawn transition. Man were they! I used one of my custom 2" Crappie Midgets in black with a chartruse tail rigged on a 1/32 oz jighead. It worked even better when I clipped the Midget in half and worked it along the canal's rocky cliffs. I later changed to a 1" Mini Jiggy Minnow on a smaller 1/64th oz Northland lure jighead. All of my keeper fish (around 9") came on this combo ad I put over 60 perch on the bank in a little under 2 hours. Evergreen is known for the small average size of it's perch, but if you weed through the dinks you can catch some filet size fish. The water is low and clear, but the fish are there and will be for a few more weeks until the canal fills up with irrigation water. This is going to be a great year for field testing my new line of Panfish jigs and Nymphs, of course I hope to regain my full eyesight back by then! Good luck brothers, jiggy.
