Well the fog took a break for most of the week only to return this morning. Along with the fog came the nearly non-existent bite which was not totally unexpected. What I can confirm is that the silvers are still at large around the I-90 Bridge and they are putting on weight. After releasing a few that took my mini Apex and my mini hoochies, I headed south to see if I could find a cutt or two in a feeding mood. The wind was a bit more pronounced south of Mercer Island and there was bait aplenty showing up on the sonar. I tried a few different depths from surface trolling down to 60’ with no luck. I figured it was time to change it up so I started skimming bottom in 50’ to 60’ of water and eventually the rod started to bob something fierce. After it released from the clip, I felt like I was stuck on the bottom and I immediately thought I’d hooked into a smallie. It took a bit, but the fish eventually gave up hugging the bottom and made its way to the boat. To my surprise it turned out to be a beautiful kelt cutthroat that was easily over 20” long. I took a few quick pics while it was next to the boat and then released the fish to put some weight back on for the derby in June. Saw quite a few bass boats out on the water, and several other boats trolling the water, I guess folks are getting the itch.
