My buddy Jordan and I hit Roses Lake for the first time today. We were on the ice, 4-5 inches thick, from about 11:30-4:30. Fishing was really, really slow the first part of the day. In the first three hours all we landed was one trout, and we auger-ed about a dozen holes. All of the other fish came in the last hour and a half. Jordan had the hot hand for trout-- he landed five if memory serves, and I landed two trout and one perch. I also lost two trout right at the whole. The trout were beefy-- all at least a foot, some in the 14-inch range. All trout were released; the lone perch was kept.
Interesting note: The trout were really high in the water column. The trout in picture hit Jordan's Swedish pimple (tipped with two wax worms) inches from the hole! He saw it all go down! The two trout I caught were in the middle of the water column in the middle of the lake.
