Hit the lake with my father to see if we couldn't pick up a few perch for a meal or two. The winds were fairly calm and we able to free drift with the help a a couple of drift socks and the occasional use of the kicker motor. We tried a few different spots, north side of Mercer Island, the 520 bridge and the west shore near Leschi. We found bait and fish in all three areas with the majority coming from the west shore. Our best action came in around 40' of water, though we really didn't give the deeper areas a lot of time. My lure of the day was a Crocodile spoon and my father was using a Swedish Pimple, both were tipped with perch meat. Our bigger fish were a shade shy of 12" long and in the 3/4 of a pound range. It did get a bit cold and wet while we were fishing and we stopped after we had a dozen fish in the box. The fish still seem to be scattered, which slowed down our catching rate, but winter is right around the corner and I'm sure they will be bunched up shortly.

Looks like that perch with the lure in it's mouth. Had to open WIDE and say awwwww. In order to slip those paper thin lips around the hook tipped with a piece of his or her brethren. I must admit, Perch is good eats.
Did you try for Cutt's?

We didn't try for cutts today, content just to jig the bottom for whatever came our way. You'd be surprised at how small a perch one can land on a good sized lure, I've even caught them on Brad's Mini Cutplugs using a 1/0 hook.

I did not know Perch were that aggressive! What is the largest Perch you have caught on Lake Wa? Or anywhere for matter?

There are some 13 and 14 inch perch in the lake, it's been a while since I seriously targeted the larger fish. I plan to do that a bit more this winter and give the cutts a break.
