I fished Cda Lake yesterday with a friend from work. We got started at abaout 8:45 and within about 10 minutes I stuck the biggest of these 2 fish. I found her in about 7 to 8 feet of water using a Rapala X Rap. A slow but steady retrieve with intermittent jerks and pauses got her attention. We had a great day, landing 4 pike each and 1, 3 1/2 pound largemouth bass. The fishing wasn't fast and furious all day but we did miss a dozen or more other fish and had a great time. Good thing we brought the rain gear.
The bigger fish was 40" and just over 18 pounds. The other one was 32 1/2" and 9 1/2 pounds. After a nice fight with the big one and a difficult time getting the lure out of the fishes mouth, I spent about 10 minutes hanging over the side of the boat with her. It's kind of like having a baby, gently rocking her back and forth, and side to side till she decides to get you all wet. LOL
What a great feeling knowing the fish survived and I can go back looking for her again next weekend. (If the wife says I can)
Total for the day was;
1 @ 18 1/4 lbs
1 @ 9 1/2 lbs
2 @ 7 lbs
and 4 @ about 4 lbs
I love my spring and summer time pike fishing but man are these big girls fun to hang out an play with in the late fall!!! I'm starting to really like these "Fat Girls"
Happy Fishing
