Went shore fishing at Ike Kinswa State Park small sandbar area. Not an experienced angler I used an 8ft rod with 15lb line and 10lb leader, swivel sinkers with Power eggs. My first cast hooked what looked like a muskie. (so much for the "fish of a thousand casts"). It was 11" so it was released. then we immediately hooked on to a 12" rainbow trout. We also lost what seemed to be a big one. The rest of the morning was quiet other than snagging on either rock or stumps.

Any suggestions as to how I can fish from shore and be more successful is welcome.

go to 4lb line and 3lb leader.better casting and your bait will float up off the bottom.

Sounds like a great idea. Thanks for the feedback. I will try that for bottom fishing

Note: seems like when I was using a 15lb line I had a better chance of un-snagging the weight/hook off of bottom rocks. Lighter 8lb line lost the whole setup ... plenty of times.
