My son Bryan and I fished Cranberry Lake in Deception Pass State Park over
the extended 4th of July weekend. We caught a little bit of everything.
There were smallmouth bass, bluegill and trout - nothing very big. Bryan
decided not to fly fish and used his spinning rod - he did well on a small
red and white Mepps. He had a big fish on, but it got away - (don't they
always??) I was using my 5 weight fly rod with a floating line. I caught
all species of fish using a dark caddis size 12. During the day, a small
green damsel nymph was productive. In the evening, a small royal Wulff
worked well. Trout fishing was best at dusk - with fish coming to drys in
the shallows.
