Well hello there members :)
I dont get many chances too get away from my busy schedule to enjoy summertime bass fishing on the smaller lakes around my area . Howvever this past sunday my partner Tyler and i made it a point to just get out and have a fun day of fishing on Lake Stevens not far from the house .
Condidtions : Mostly cloudy through out the day and sun breaks came in the afternoon . Low Winds all day long for the most part .
The pattern : We quicky discovered that the majority of the better size fish were in the deeper depths (18-22ft) . We mainily ran a few deeper docks around the lake untill we figured out that the smallies were not just on any ol deep dock . The docks that had a sharp drop off from 15-30ft adjacent too even deeper water were the best docks , which held bigger size fish .
The Execution : Most of all of our fish came on 1/2oz football heads the one on topwater spook .
The Tackle & Gear : I used My dobyns 744DX and ran 40lb prower pro (superslick) braid too a 12ft P-line fluoro
leader . The bait was simply just a gary yam hula grub or sweet Beavers in green pumpkin matched with my 1/2 oz football heads .
The Catch : I ended the day with a 5 fish limit that went just shy of 18lbs total weight , that included Two 4 lbers one 3.5lb and my biggest went 5.2lbs .. My partner caught a total of 3 keepers , that included 2 over 4lbs also :)
The details worth mentioning :
Guys i can tell ya far in advance that those pesty perch will peek your baits to death on this lake ..lol
Now with that being said i also wanted to mention that a few cast i made were the perch were picking my bait apart i continued with my retreive and kept my bait moving even thou the perch wouldnt stop pecking it , on 3 different occasions the perch bites stoped and then "thonk" the smallie bite happen :) I honestly believe that was the only difference in my end results compared to my partners efforts while fishing the same water and same baits . So keep this mind next time your on stevens !!
Sorry for not taking pics yesterday , as i mentioned it was a day of fun fishing so niether of us took the camera to the lake .
As always thanks for reading and i hope anyone can take something from our efforts and have a blast also .. May your next bass be your best bass is the motto !!
