Started off the morning pretty good. I wanted to launch at Mercer Island so I can check out the UW area. When I got on the freeway, traffic was relatively light compared to the usual, so I was stoked. Got on the water by 8AM. I spent about 30 mins driving around the pillars to find the "rock piles". I couldnt find the rock piles. I found what appears to be balls of bait in between the pillars, maybe. I also found some kind of concrete structure too. Maybe a big block or something. I didn't mark any active fish around there. I threw some cranks and jigs at the area without a bite.

Water temp was only 68 degrees. I take off to the UW area. Worked the shallows by the barges. Got 1 nice perch near a dock. Got a strike from a small(~10") LMB by the pads. I tried throwing things around the 520 bridge pillars too, but not even a bite.

I work my way to the area where I circled with red in my picture. I couldnt get to where I wanted to go. There's a trail/wooden bridge that goes across the islands that only a canoe can fit under. so I just worked the outside area of the canal.

Got a strike from either a trout or squawfish on a swimbait. All I so was a flash of silver. LOTS of weeds here. I had to tilt my motor up twice to clear the propeller.

After a couple of hours working this area with nothing bass. I headed back towards MI boat launch. Wow the wind is picking up. I'm freezing now. It was rough making my way back.

I get to the launch area and last minute decided to check out the canals since they were close by. Worked 1 of the canals without a single bite. Then I was told they recently sprayed herbicide in the area. I wonder if this affected the fishing.

I also lost my Lake Washington/Banks Lake map. Got blown out somewhere when I was blasted away I guess. :(

Rockpiles are by the 1-90, not 520....

I was looking around under I90. Right by the launch.

I've never heard of anyone catching anything decent from the montlake cut/520 bridge. With all the traffic it gets from kayakers and pleasure boats it is almost always impossible to fish too.

I have been working the pads near the Newport Marina as I just know there are some good LM in there but so far only one small dink and a good blow up on a jitterbug. My spidey senses tell me there are some good LM in that area and last time out while drifting over some of the pads in the wind we spooked several good size LM out but none seem to be interested in biting. Have tried frogs, Rapalas and the Jitterbug. Next will be a buzzbait down the open lanes between the pads. I'm itchin to get a good size LM out of there.

Aren't the rock piles on the west side of Mercer Island under I-90?
