Fished Ohop for the second time and got one 9-inch largemouth bass in the morning around 10 AM on a Cabela's "Grave Digger" crankbait. Also had other strikes on a GY grub but failed to boat the fish. People I talked to both on the lake and shore agreed that the fishing was slow. Tried fishing around the docks, but the water and jet skiers made the water too choppy.

My favorite largemouth lake. Tough to fish when skiers are out. Took the wife there the other night after work to fish strictly topwater and had one blow up and no fish on. Pretty disappointed.

Ohop can be a tough lake, but it does give up some big bass. In my personal experience, Sept and Oct seems to be the best month for catching the big ones. It does still have the morning and evening speed limit, doesn't it?

Yes, the morning and evening speed limits are still in effect. However, the speed notice signs at the public boat launch and at north end of the lake are worn and not really legible.

Because Ohop is one of the few lakes that has a morning and evening speed limit, the signs should be replaced to insure the law is inforcible. I don't know if that is the game department or the lake's home owners. I've caught four 8 lbers is my life, and 3 of them came from Ohop, with my biggest being 8-12. And all were caught in either September or October. Last year I caught a 4-11 and a 6-3 just three days before it closed for the year. Both on the flat where people pull off to fish from shore about half way down the lake on the left. That is also where one of my 8 lbers came from. Keep your fingers crossed that the home owners don't have the lake sprayed again for weed control. They've did it twice that I know of and both times the quality of the water, and the bass fishing went south for at least a year.

The speed limit is there but not all people adhere to it. The other night at 7:30 there was a boat doing 30+ all over the place:(

rickyd, I never fished this lake until last September and it quickly became my fav. lake, that would explain it. I thought the topwater bite might be good but skunked in both attempts, recently. Thinking about fishing it at night. Have my wifey drop me off and pick me back up in the morning.
