My grandpa is the one who got me hooked on fishin, but the down side he is gettinn old. He hasn't been fishin for a couple years now, and he isn't able to go anymore. When I was at his house last week I was sifting through stuff as I usually do. I decided I was going to take one of his poles. The pole was a 9.6 lamiglas 6 to 15 lb certifited pro. The reel is a shimano corsair 300 with 12lb mono. I figured the best way to honor my grandpa would be to get some fish on his pole.
I was kinda short on time, so I went to whitman again. I stuck with a white spinner bait most of the time. I caught One amost 2 lbs right away and a bunch of dinks. Then swithed to a wacky senko, but that was a bust so I switched back to the spinner bait and caught one that was almost 2lbs also.
I only had a few hours to fish because I was goin to see my grandpa, but I wanted to fish with his pole more also, so I decided add a half hour to the trip. I ended up with one more the was just under 3lbs. I heard it splash under a dock so I skipped a tube under and the bass hammered it.
I fished for 3hrs. total. The lake is pretty choaked up with weeds, but there is some fish in there. Oh yeah, the pole is really nice, but the reel sucks. I think I will keep using the reel just because it was my grandpas though. It cast okay, but the gear ratio is slow and the drag loosens up every few casts . I think I will just tie down the drag.
