I finally got a nice one at Deep Lake. I've put in a lot of time at this lake. ..hope I might be figuring something out. Caught this on on a G/Y Hula Grub. Felt like I was reeling in a brick until it went crazy jumping and headshaking. My son grabbed the line and pulled her in. As soon as it was in the canoe my knot came untied. I'll have to remember to tie better knotts when using fluorocarbon. Was really exciting for us. My son is more into trolling for trout but last couple nights has taken the basspro catalogue to bed with him. Maybe I'm creating a monster :)

thats pretty cool to see your son with big eyes dreaming over that Cabelas catalog. thats what will turn. him into a middle aged fishing junkie like us. (At least its not the Sears catalog, lol)

Flourocarbon lines require specific knots. Some of the knots I've seen on YouTube made my brain smoke just trying to follow the instructions. The guys I know that use flourocarbon line usually use the Palomar knot. It's the simplest. But I've heard there are some flourocarbon lines that that doesn't work. Anyway, nice LM!!

My tip with fluorocarbon knots is don't buy cheap line. You can get away with cheap mono or braid but not fluoro. Trilene 100% flouro, Seaguar Tatsu, Sunline sniper etc. are all good lines I've had success with. Then you need to lubricate the crap out of it, either dip it in the lake or use ten times more saliva than you would when using mono. Almost all knots that are not "clinch style" work well. The Palomar is a good knot as is the Uni but also try the Trilene knot. Just be sure to cinch it slowly as fluorocarbon gets heat friction and will easily break. Be sure to really test the knot before fishing because if it is going to break it will break when you test it & not on a Bass. Once you do get a good knot it won't break, but sometimes you have to tie a 2 or 3 to get that perfect one. I lost a few nice fish when I started fishing fluorocarbon and almost gave up on it, but since I started using the tips above I've yet to break off a fish. Stick with it I am convinced it will catch you more fish over the long haul.

Good advise on buying cheap flourocarbon. Fished with a fella that did just that. His line broke for no apparent reason. Not only at the knot, but anywhere between the knot and the reel. Except for my bait casting rods which I use Excel mono, I personally use braid with a Maxima mono leader on all my spinning reels, tying the two together with an Albright knot. They never fail me.

Thanks for the tips guys. I was using Stren Flouro and a clinch knot. Since the knot failed and not the line I think I just need to learn some new knots. Hey I think I have an app for that :) In fact when I do get a snag it takes quite a bit of effort to break it. So I guess the line isn't too bad considering I got it for $10

Can't wait to get back out there!
