Given the recent demize of the northern pike in the Pend Oreille River, I have been spending a lot of time fishing Coeurdalene Lake and the connecting chain lakes. I learned to fish for pike in the cda system so the POR situation simply helped me decide where I will be spending my fishing time and dollars.

I fished the chain lakes on Wednesday July 4th and released 23 pike, the largest being a 30", one 29" and a few 28"ers. The following saturday I fished the main lake and had another good day. I had to cut the day short but I still ended up releasing 9 pike and one largemouth bass. Saturdays fish ran from a couple of dinks in one oc the chain lakes to a 30"er and a 32"er from the main lake. These fish are very aggresive right now and are very easy to find. The cabbage beds are starting to show themselves and the pike are congregating in them. As usual, bays and shoreline wedbeds are producing most of the fish. Fallen trees are doing well to. Saturdays water temps ran from 62 to 77 degrees.

Fish are hitting spinner baits, jerk baits and soft plastic frogs. Orange seems to be the best color for spinnerbaits and whtie frogs are knocking them dead.

Happy fishing

Pretty good couple of days for ya'. Be back over there very soon with the family. By any chance, did you happen to get a look at the Medicine launch? It was pretty flooded a few weeks ago, just curious if the water level has come down at all.

Kevin, I have been having a stellar year so far. Short of a couple of slow days, every day has been outstanding. I've released 89 pike so far this year. Lots of nice healthy fish out there.I didn't make it to that lake. I plan on going there soon but I think the water is down enough now that it would be accessable. Let me know when you're comming. Maybe we can hook up and catch a fish or two.

As for you Mr. Mark K., climb aboard the "Cruser", and I'll give you a frog clinic you will never forget. You have yet to see what those frogs are capable of. 17 of those 23 fish on the 4th came on frogs. You know, the "Secret" frog. SSSSHHHH don't tell everyone which brand they are. :)
The wife and I leave Saturday morining for a fly fishing float trip on the Flathead River. I hear they have pike over there. HHMMMM I wonder if I can talk the guide into getting me on to a couple with a fly rod.

Happy fishing.

Hey Mark,
Glad to see you are catching the Pike in #'s. By the way my son and my friend Chris are both on cloud 9 right now from catching there very first Northern Pike's and we all can't wait to get back over and fish the Chain Lakes again. I will certainly keep this fall open and take you up on the offer when the leaves start changing colors again. I can only imagine what the Lake looks like during that time of the year. I am definitely up for hitting the main lake the next time we roll thru. Good Luck this summer and tight lines. Give me a call if you think the fishing is really going to pick up and maybe we can make a summer trip before this fall. I will also make sure to bring some of the Pickled Pike with, hopefully you have had a chance to enjoy some more Pike in the frying pan since we cooked up the last batch.
