Got a chance to hook up and show some chain lakes pike fishing opportunities to Natebg1, his son Hunter and friend Chris. These guys were new to these waters so it was going to be a challenge without a little direction.
I started the day with a nice 32"er that went 9 1/2 pounds. Water temps were from low to mid 60's all day. My partner and I managed 3 fish a piece in the first lake on slow moving baits. Soft plastics and spoons. We then moved on to the next lake where things started out pretty slow. Once the sun showed it's self, we switched to spinner baits with chrome blades and it was game on ( as far as numbers goes, not size). My partner Clay finished the day with 6 pike and I managed to release 15. The first fish of the day was the biggest but there were plenty of those 24"ers to make it a great day. I believe Nates boat finished with a total of 8 pike. That's not bad for a group of first time visiters, when two of them had never caught a pike before.
It was a pleasure having Nate and is son and friend over to fish and hang out at my place for the evening. If you know me very well you know I don't eat fish. I only catch and release them. However, after eating some pike fillets made with Nates Grandpas cooking methods, that may just change. That was some good eating.
It was a great getting to meet these guys and I look forward to seeing them come over again soon. Thanks for sharing a great day on the water with us.
