A very special thanks to Rafael Colon for bringing his kids, Nadia and Alex as well as brother in law Doyle Mears out to fish with Jeff and me on what turned out to be a very memorable day. I thought Jeff needed a deckhand, and since we didn't have any good ones available, I went. We've been working the same lower basin pattern that Jeff has perfected. I thought that by coming along, I had put the "whammy" on the boat. We picked up a fish here and then a fish there, but it was slower than what we were used to with breezy cold weather to boot. Then Jeff made a slight alteration and the outrigger rod on his side bowed back and bucked. Rafael and Alex manned the rod and painstakingly fought the fish to the net. After 35 minutes, I dipped the net under Ogo Pogo. It hung on the scale at 19lb 10oz. We had taken a long time to put that fish in the boat so we ran up to the head of our troll and came down one more time. Jeff made the same basic pattern alteration and "bang", the outrigger rod went off on my side. This time Uncle Doyle and Nadia went to work on the rod. After a somewhat shorter battle, I had to ask Jeff for the big net again as it looked like Ogo Pogo's fatter twin coming up through the water column. I netted the pig. Nadia and Alex said we could go in now... It weighed 20lb 3oz! I don't know that I've ever fished on Chelan where the second biggest fish of the trip was 19lb 10oz. Both big fish came on T4 Purple Glow Flatfish in 140' of water. Speeds were 1.1 to 1.4 mph. We fished very close to the bottom. What a morning!
