So after sitting on the Columbia river in the rain all day Saturday with 2 take downs ( yes it was slow) I had booked a room in Morton so I could get an early start on Riffe Sunday morning. But on my way to Morton I saw people fishing at the dam and couldn't help myself so stopped by to see the action and it was on fire!! everyone was pulling in fish so I quickly ran back to my truck and boat and tied on a leader with a bobber and ran back to get a spot down by the rocks. It was a blast and ended up with a nice 14" salmon to get me ready for today. So of course I am getting sick so took nyquil last night and didn't wake up until 6:30am. I quickly packed and headed out for the lake~ of course had to give the dam one more shot as I had a couple worms left and some cured shrimp. The weather was beautiful with no breeze and a nice hot sun. Got a little one but since the weather looked so nice i had to get my boat on the water! I launched at Mossyrock park and started my troll towards the dam. I had on a pink hootchie with pink smiley blade and dodger on the downrigger and the bloody mary with 1 and 1/4 ounce of weight on the other both tipped with shrimp and pink maggots. After a couple drive by's I decided to change out the dodger for a green and pink UV kone zone flasher that I have used before on Riffe and as soon as i dropped it to 45' started getting action! I switched the other line over to a hootchie also but put on a pink splatter sling blade. Got a few smaller ones on the that as I was started my troll along the highway side of the lake my downrigger popped off and I could tell I had a good size one on. It was the biggest one so far but the weather decided to go back to it's old pattern again and the wind picked up and by the time I turned around to troll back white caps were forming so called it a day. But of course, as soon as I got back to the launch the sun came out again but that's okay as I was starting to feel pretty crappy again and had a long drive home. I sure like this lake and will be back and hope to give the Columbia another shot at the June hogs before they close it.
