It happened again, I get a text at work from my wife telling me how nice it is out and do you want to go fishing after work! Man, do I love my wife! It was a toss up between Eloika or Lake Spokane, didn't want to deal with the cabbage at Eloika so up to Lake Spokane we went! Got the launch around 6 pm and the water level was still high and running fast against the dock, just like a couple weeks ago, so on the boat bumpers went and launched. Headed up to our favorite smallie spot and found 4 boats already there! Dinked around there for about 30 min with no bites so around the corner to another spot, and after engulfing one of my wife's yummy veggie sandwiches I tossed in some reeds on a point and something stripped my plastic worm completely off! That has never happened before, so on goes another worm, tossed in the same area and bam! Fish on! Saw that it was a decent one and had my trusty net gal boat the fish for me, reached down to get my digital scale and guess what, the battery was dead from the on button stuck (had to be one of my Grandson's). So we'll call her 4 1/2 lbs... And that was the only fish we caught all evening! So, Ha, all you fine fishermen out there that think I catch lots of fish, not all the time! I'm going to start including pictures of the weapons we use. Happy fishing!
We were fishin out there the other day and we had the same thing happen with the soft plastic getting ripped off!!! We were saying thats never happened! It happened 3 times, we were thinking it was perch or some small fish with teeth because we caught a few decent size perch on some senkos. We fished there Sunday and the water on the main lake was about a foot low, so they must have opened up the dam. The water temps dropped about 5 degrees this week from the previous week so the fishing was tough on sunday. We were out there 7am till 4 and caught about 15 fish, biggest was a 4 lb 5oz smallie, but that was the only one over 3lbs that we caught it was slooooooow. Thanks for the update!
I fished Long about a week and a half ago and had the same problem using tubes, set the hook and lose your bait. I figured it out as being the perch, mainly because I caught half a dozen about 10in on a tube while bass fishing.
Went to Long Lake Sunday. Launched at 9 mile. Our first stop was a dock about 2 miles down the lake from the launch. 2 casts with a Zoom lizard and 2 pound smallie couldn't resist it. 3 docks and 20 minutes later my partner bagged a 4 pound 2 oz largemouth. Then nothing but 4 or 5 dink smallies the rest of the day. Like Danny said, the water temp was 5 degrees cooler than last week when my partner bagged 22 fish, including 2 smallies just under 5 pounds.
I launch out of nine mile resort. I am a disabled vet so its free, otherwise it is a pay launch site. The launch fee is $7 or you can launch from the state site upriver. The state launch only requires the yellow vehicle license, but it can be quite hazardous especially with the extreme current flow for the last few months.
@Rocky-I normally put in at the Lake Spokane (that's what the sign says) launch about a half mile up from the 9-mile dam heading south. Be careful here, the water is still flowing pretty fast. I think there is still a $7 launch fee (I don't know because I have a Disabled Vet pass exemption). Then there is Riverside State park a few miles up accross the 9-mile bridge, not sure about a fee there either. Then there is the DNR (Dept of Natural Resources) launch about 5 miles up past Tum Tum, this one's free when it's open. There is a resort in Tum Tum too, not sure if it's still open or what the cost is this year.
