Hit American Lake at around 6 this morning in search of some smallies. Started with the dropshot and never put it down. Didnt catch a smallmouth but caught a whole bunch of rock bass. I caught 18 and my dad caught 6. We made it a competition to see who could catch the bigest fish of the day and I won as he didnt retain a fish to weigh. But didnt get to weigh mine. Dad grabed the fish out of the livewell and fish jumped into the lake, so no photo either. Had to be around a pound though it was a really nice rock bass. All in all very fun day love catching rock bass if the other fish arent biting.

Don't know how deep you were fishing, but usually this time of the year the smallies have moved deeper, with the 10 to 12 ft range in areas that have steeper drop offs from the shorelines being my preferred depths. The areas of the Thornwood Mansion down, and the park across the lake and down being an example. Because of the weeds I too use a drop shot rig tipped with 3 inch rainbow trout Fin-S, which is a pretty good match to the small Kokanee fry. I usually put my boat in that depth range and slowly move the boat, letting the sinker drag along the bottom. Ofcourse, the rock bass, not to mention perch, are out there too. Hope that helps.

You say thorn wood mansion and down and park and down, which way down are you referring to? Towards the condo apartments at the end of the lake or back towards the public free boat launch? Also the park are you talking about the park where you have to pay to park? Also how long of a leader do you use from weight to hook do u use? I like using super finesse worms on a dropshot what seems to work best out there?

Yep, toward the Condos at the end of the lake, which is NE. The park I'm talking about is just to the right of the pay lauch across and down the lake from the public launch. There's swings, slides, ect. up the hill, and a roped off swimming area down at the water. I fish off both shorelines until they begin to shallow out. On the leader, a foot or so is what I use.

Cool I'll try that next time I'm out there. What lure seems to work best for you out there on the drop shot
