Went up to Quinalt to prepare for derby next week, thought it was this week until we called prior to leaving, always has been held the 1st saturday of june, but the Lions club is not sponsoring it this year, I believe, so that may have something to do with it. I know that the La Nina winters this year and last year had a lot of late snowmelt that has slowed a number of fisheries down a little that have high mt. drainage, it slowed the derby catch down last year, maybe that was reason for delay. All is good, gives the lake another week to heat up.Water temp. was 55 or so, still cold. We caught 12 fish, 1 dolly and 11 cuts, with the biggest cut being about 14 1/2 inches, a nice fish considering these native cuts don't run much bigger then 15 or so, last 5 or 6 years winning fish have been under 18 for cuts, Dollies of course are bigger but prize is smaller. We left in the middle of a great bite, but we had been on the water for 8+ hours and had a lot to eat.Dolly was about 1 3/4 lbs. Lost a really big fish that ripped it out of the release, but a fumbled handoff by yours truely caused a truely large fish to come unbuttoned that was Melanie's fish. She of course was very forgiving as I was more P.O.ed at myself then she was!Nothing truely picture worthy, but maybe this weekend. Unfortunatly Melanie has work related obligations so I'll be doing the derby solo.I think I got it really dialed in this year if conditions don't change much in 6 days. Bob R
