Work was pretty mellow so with plenty of pent up energy and a beautiful evening I decided to head up to Stevens to use my new kokanee gear and get my boat running smoothly.

I launched at the WDFW ramp, it wasn't too busy. The evening conditions werre low 70s, mostly sunny, and a bit of a breeze blowing out of the NW. Actually a pretty good, fresh breeze. My boat has been having plaining issues and I thought I had found the issue (rocks in the grill of my jet motor), but unfortunately it still ran like a pig and very rough now as well. I found out later I also had a bunch of line in the impellor. I hope now it will run better.

As to the fishing. I started NE of the aerators and worked into the wind and down the west side. I marked fish 25-45 ft that I'm pretty sure were silver footballs, but they were not interested in biting. I threw several different colors and rigs at them, tipped with corn and scent. Two rods off DRs, no luck. This kokanee fishing isn't the slam dunk it was the first time out. Oh well, I'm up for learning!

Photo taken off my phone looking east.

Mike, the kokanee fishing on out local Western Washington lakes has been tough this year but when you do get one they are nice fish.

Mike, I too got skunked on Lk Stevens yesterday, was on the lake @ 4:30am unitl 10:00. I threw every combination and color under the rainbow, tried from 5' down to 50', nothing except two small perch that took the corn tipped wedding rings.
Last year at this time I was knocking them dead. I've got to wonder if the poison they put in the lake to kill the milfoil has actually killed or effected the fish? Or maybe with the word out the last couple of year the lake is just getting over fished?

i also had little success. on the water at 5ish, lots of jumpers actually planers they would jump several times kinda skipping along the top, i have a hunch the low pressure the nite before may have some effect , thunder, lighting, etc. so at 7;30 moved to the point outside of cove for perch, 40 plus all very fat [ no females] so not a total loss. mighty fine eating. after all the work of the perch's revenge.
