Went to Roses today since the wind was light. Water was calm to slight chop, so it was an easier day of boat control than yesterday. We still pulled in tons of small (5-7") crappie, but were able to find some larger ones in deeper water since we could hold position and hunt for them. We kept 9 and as I was cleaning them, Cindy landed another one and a couple of keeper bluegill. The smallest one we kept was around 10", and the largest was 12 1/2". Still slow bite for the larger spinyrays, but it will light up soon. Cindy was using 1/16 oz jighead with Berkley mini-creature and a crappie nibble while I was reeling em in on a 1/60 oz jig head and a "Pink" trout Magnet", and also uses a 2" gulp minnow with equal success. A great day on the water and good fillets for the skillet.

Great job Lewis! Glad to see that you and the Missus are getting into the slabs. I'm looking forward to getting up there to fish with you soon. Jiggy

I notice you use the artificials a lot. Have you found that just chunks of worm doesn't cut it? Way to bring in the slabs to the plate!

Hi Jiggy, let me know ahead of time when you are coming this way. Maybe I can hook up with you and I can see the Dragun Bugs in action.

@ MarkFromSea, Chunks of worm will work, but we've found certain presentations with artificials work as well for the spiny rays around here, and it's lots easier especially during warmer weather when the worms can get over heated really fast.

Good work there blufin! Gotta love it when Roses is just right and the Crappie are turned on! Good for you!

I'll get a few more artificials for the taco box! Thanks! European nightcrawler or red wiggler is a little more resilient to the heat, Canadians croak pretty quickly, I agree.

Hey sounds like a good time on the water! Im going to be over there next week and I will be fishing roses for the first time. I want to catch some catfish and crappie. Are there a lot of catfsih in there? Also is this lake ok for me to bring a 4 person inflatable on? Or is that too risky? Any info would be great! thanks!
