Got to fish American today with Gringo Pescador and rseas. I was really looking forward to the trip after having a pretty hard weekend of work. My one day off so make the most of it!
We launched and had lines in the water by 5:45, which may have been too late. Definitely it was a morning bite. We ran two downriggers, one stacked, one lead line, and one surface. The fish were marking from teens to 50ish feet. We trolled the usual kokanee type gear. For bait we had maggots and corn. Didn’t seem to matter much, but rseas rods had all the action and he was adding scent. We each hooked a football, unfortunately mine came off at the net – totally my fault as I horsed it the last few feet.
Our fish came two off deep rods (45ish feet) and one off the lead line, one color. We also got a couple rainbow on the surface line. Beautiful conditions and gorgeous fish, but overall it was slow. We saw a few caught, but not much, and seemed to be pretty well done by 8-9am.
I did return home with a list of boat modifications to work on, and had to order a new foot switch for my electric trolling motor. $$$ !!!
Good luck out there.

Mark, was that your first time Kokanee fishing? I really enjoy those fish, and obviously they go down well too. Rseas has some killa recipes.

If I were you guys i would go to Kokanee kid fishing.com and order some of his arrow flash dodgers and some R&K hoochies in the silver body with whatever color you like I and also a few super micro hoochies in whatever color you have confidence in but I switched to this gear about 4 months ago and I have always caught fish but with these products it was like I couldn't keep them off my hooks and not nibbles but slammer bites amazing Kokanee gear if you have any questions Jeremy the owner is always available to help you out with any questions you might have if you try these products your success will explode and let him know Kingchinook sent ya hope you take the advice cause guaranteed it will pay ten fold

Saw you guys out there today, It was a tough morning. ScreamingEagle and I got lots of trout and 3 really nice Kokes. We were in the flat green smokercraft that was fishing around the same area as you guys (along with the other 50 boats)!!!

Yep, my 1st outing targeting Kokanee - but none for me today. I C&R-ed two trout at least! It was a great day, hopefully I can get back out there and get one or two next time.

You are starting on a good year because you wont get spoiled. Thats what has happened to everyone that fished American last year. The fishing was too easy and now we have to work for it. Maybe next year will be another amazing year. Bad day of fishing still better than a good day of work. What time did you guys pull out of the water? We headed out at about 9 because the wind started to pick up a little, and the bite slowed down.

doesnt the BX or PX have boats for rent ? ..... dont know i'm old ... if your fish'n with bait .. on the bottom or under a float and your not catch'n trout .. your just hold'n your mouth wrong .. keep at it .. early morn'n or dusk are best ... if you want to go after the Kokanee/landlock salmon you'll need a boat and to do a lil study'n on the site here ... Ol' Grey Dog, "maaannnn look at the bellies on those things !!!!" I resemble that remark and it comes from too many kokanee!

BTW, thanks to Gringo and rseas who each donated a fish to my smoker, they turned out AMAZING. I can't believe how much rseas recommendation of letting the fillets air dry made a difference. Outside was a beautiful bronze color and dry/clear sheen, inside was incredibly moist and Delicious!
