Took my Mom fishing for Mother's Day and caught the biggest trout that I will ever catch!!! We arrived at Mallard Bay Resort around 7:00 am and started fishing off the dock. It was slow going for the first hour and a half then we started to get a couple of bites. I caught my first fish on a gold Blue Fox spinner, 11" rainbow. Missed a couple more bites after that than the unexpected happened, I hooked on to a 30", 12.9 pound BROWN!!! I was never expecting to hook something that size, so my gear selection was very questionable for the task at hand. I was using a cheap rod/reel combo with 6 pound test line!!! After the intial hook set, I instantly new I was in for the fight of a lifetime. It only took about five minutes to get into the net, but it felt like eternity. The fish kept going under the docks and rental boats pulling drag like no other and at one point the line caught the edge of the dock and nearly snapped. I thought I had caught a 7 or 8 pounder but was astonished when I weighed it with two different electronic scales to make sure it was true, and it was true, I had just caught a 12.9 pound Brown Trout!!!!! All the years I have fished there and finally I have caught a fish worth record status for Clear Lake. If any of you go to Mallard Bay Resort be sure to ask the owner, Mark, to see the pictures of the lake monster, lol. I have to be honest and say the fishing was kind of slow, usually the bite is better in the evening hours for me, but this trip gets a 5 star rating for the obvious reasons. Thanks for reading and everyone fish safe and do your part to keep our waters clean.
