So I have been on a major dry spell and haven't been able to get a smallie yet this year. I have been waiting patiently for Clear lake to open up, which just happened. I went there on friday last week and got zero strikes. That was the windiest I have seen it and it was cold. Watching the weather report, I figured the fish would move up and be active. As soon as I launched the boat I saw a smallie about 2lbs. crusing , but it was not interesed in my baits, so I skipped my usual tube under the first big dock with the bike ramp and saw my line moving and set. When I pulled her out I saw she was big. She weighed in at 6lb 8oz. My personal best and I had only been fishing maybe ten minutes! There was a guy launching so I had him take a picture. He was not very familiar with a digital camera and his finger is in every pic, but it is still better than the "self porttrait" I do with smaller fish. I decided to just skip docks, you could see fish under docks but they would just look at it, or if you got too close they would just swim off. I caught a couple smallies, biggest was about 2lbs. The worst or best part was seeing 3 monster smallmouth that were about 5 or 6 lbs a piece and I could not get one of them to even look at my baits. I know there hide out though maybe next time I'll get them. As time wore on the fish seem to disappear. All action was in the first couple hours. The lmb was in about 2 ft and the big smallies were about 8 or 10ft.
