I took a few of my closest friends to one of my holes in hopes of my buddy's 4 years old son (Brodie) catching his first fish. We started off w/ some soft plastics ect... and couldn't seem to find a bite. We broke down and bought some earthworms after 2 hours of work and Brodie was getting tierd and un-interested.

I put little pieces on a drop shot w/ a 4' leader and then brodie caught his first sculpin. He was so amazed! I was tickled as well. We were setting the hook for him and letting him attempt to reel the fish in. 5-10 sculpin later Brodie communicated that he wanted to catch a big fish! We put bigger pieces of worm on and casted out a little further and found a school of rock bass. He couldn't really reel them in but he got a kick out of it when we aided him!

After quite a few rock bass, I casted to the same spot and felt a MONSTER bite in comparison. I knew it was a trout or bass. Turned out to be a big ol' largie and it was mad!!! I felt bad but I was worried the fish would pull the pole out of his hands. About the time I tried to get him to help me reel it in, the fish got me under a tree and good by 6 ib line!!! I was so mad... just kept wondering how excited brodie would of been to see a 4 to 5 pound bass his first trip out.

I re-rigged hoping there were more in the area. I'm casting to some new spots when My buddy Ray (brodies dad) had grabbed my plastics rig and tossed it to the same spot I originally hooked up. I just hear him going OHHH!! OHHH!!! Then a huge green fish launched out of the water. Ray hasn't been bass fishing in a long long time so I helped him land the fish. As I lipped her I noticed my drop shot hook in it's lip along w/ my 3/0 HOOK. I was like WTF???? I had never seen a bigger bass hit something that quickly just after being hooked. I think Ray was more stoked than his son! That was his PB. Scaled @ 4.7. It was a blast.

Brodie may be wearing a guitar on his shirt, but you're the rockstar for taking them out and getting another kid into fishing. Tell Ray congrats on a great LMB.
I'm probably gonna head over to Lk Union mid morning tomorrow. If you see an orange jacket, it's probably me.
