I thought it was me. I thought I had somehow lost all I had learned about fly fishing presentation, insect hatches, and fish behavior. I spent what seemed an eternity trying feverishly to talk a trout into taking a taste-test of my latest creation. Nothing doing! Like many other angler's attempting the same feat this spring, I too have fallen to the cunning nature of cold water browns. I know with a couple of warmer days that all will be forgotten and we all will resume our special relationship with the elusive quarry. I must have tried every size and color of chironomid known to man. I fished different depths at different speeds with varying color and presentations. After a few hours of this I was ready to leave and as I stripped line to my tube it happened...... The one and only hit all day. I missed the fish and left frozen and defeated. I will be back and will be successful again. Strive to conserve such precious resources and learn to appreciate the cycle of life!
