My first time fishing blue lake on the opener was a great experience. After work on Saturday i launched my boat around 3 in the afternoon and trolled around with flashers and a wedding ring setup. I thought the fishing would have been a lot easier for opening day but did decent, landing 4 average trout in a couple hours. I then docked the boat for the night and camped at the north end of the lake.

The next morning we got out on the water around 6 and did more of the same but a bit better having more poles in the water with my girlfriend and puppy joining me for the day :) I decided to try something new after getting bored of fishing the same way and it payed off! instead of trolling with the electric motor i turned it off and fired up my 15hp outboard and let it go on idle. We were trolling at a much faster pace (5mph?) so i let out a lot of line about 200 ft or more and instantly we had fish on the line nonstop! However, we lost a lot of fish with this method due to the long distance we had to reel in the fish to the boat.

All in all it was a great day out on the water. Talked to some annoyed bank fisherman and it seemed that the the boats were way more successful than the bankers. I thought it was funny and kinda disgusting that almost every fish i caught was squirting out powerbait though!

No need for all the hardware for these fish. A small Needlefish, Dick Nite or mini Apex is all you need to drag behind the boat.
