I have never fished Riffe Lake before so when Kokanee_slayer asked if I wanted to go next Saturday I said yes. Then I kept my eye on weather.com. The weather was going to be sunny and 70’s with calm winds. Well that was for Mossyrock. We got there close to 7:30am, it was very windy with swells and white caps. We motored up the lake a bit. Past an island that was on the right. We stopped and went out toward the middle to rig everything up and the wind trolled us.
Kokanee_slayer got the first hit and then I got the first fish in. After that I don’t know really anything except insane catching. It was hard to unhook them because of the waves. After my 3rd fish in the box I stopped using the bait that we were told to use (shrimp). I can’t tell you how many fish we caught. It was a day filled with catching and I haven’t had one like that since May 9, 2010. We were letting the wind troll us (1-2 mph) to a certain point then go back and do it again. But the last time Kokanee_slayer said he wanted to go further. He stopped and there were fish so we trolled in circles because by this time the wind died down as the sun rose and it got warmer.
For the most part I used a Dick Nite Pink Splatter dodger with a Mack’s Pink Splatter mini squid that I rigged up with beads and red hooks that the red wore off of and a Bahama Mamma dodger with a Wannafish A Lure mini Bloody Mary.
Thank you Kokanee_slayer for an awesome day.
