My opening weekend trip back home to the Okanogan Valley got cancelled at the last minute so I decided to see if I get catch at Tiger Trout at Fish Lake.

I arrived around 8:00 a.m. and the lake was packed. Lots of shore fishermen and tons tubers, pontoons and boats. However, with a little attention to where you were going, it was pretty easy to avoid the other fishermen.

Fishing was surprisingly slow for an opening morning. Most opening mornings mean lakes with eager trout and 30 fish days are common. Well the fish in Fish Lake had other ideas.

I picked up a small Tiger Trout (They really are beautiful!) right after I launched my float tube. From then on out I had to work for them. All total I landed 3 and lost 2 more due to cold fingers and the line slipping out of my hands during the strip. My father in law landed 4 with a few other strikes.

No one group of anglers seemed to have the fish dialed in. Bait fishermen, spin fishermen and fly fishermen all seemed to have about the same slow luck.

On Sunday evening I returned with my son who had now recovered from his illness. I was still surprised at the number of fishermen on the lake. We had the same the results. Very slow going. We got one small Tiger right away and then lost one more.

The weather has been cool leading up to the opener so maybe the fish will begin moving better with some steady sunshine. This lake may fish out pretty quick if the interest in the Tiger Trout continues.
