The wife wanted to do some Trout fishing so up to Deer we went, arrived at the lake around 1:00, weather was breezy with hit & miss showers, typical spring weather. Water temps were low 40's. The wife didn't do to well with the trout (we did see some nice 18-24" brought in by others). So during our last hour or so I decided to hit some of the docks for some bassin and a few Smallies found my hook, including this nice one. Sure was nice to be out on the water, a good start to the bass season!

JIm,
It's good to see that you're back at your bass catchin ways. My guess is the bass at Eloika better start shaking in their boots now that you have started fishing for the year.

Nice colors on that smallie, and the area you are fishing has some great rock piles out there to hold some really nice smallies plus the flat in the background is good early spring largie country..

Way to go buddy!! Deer is one of my favorite lakes whether I'm fishing for Mackinaw, Large or Smallmouth Bass I've always done well here & caught some big fish. There's some true giant SMB in here, but there's many many more fish under 12'' & I think the number of quality bass is dropping off dramatically due to this. If any pan-fisherman are reading this head out to Deer Lake this summer, bring all the night crawlers you can find & get to work! Lol. But seriously these smaller fish really need culling. I've had multiple 50 - 100 fish days using only artificial lures. Okay!! I am getting off my band box. -ilv2fish good to see your out there catching Bass in this cold water, seems like a good omen for the coming season. We talked last year about fishing together & never made it out. So let's go a few times this year to make up for it. Send me an email & we can pick a lake/time to go. P.S. I want to see how you work your voodoo with the 8'' Zoom lizards your always nailing 5 lb. LMB with. Keep up the posts. _ wekrels@gmail.com
