It was a beautiful day out and I decided to take my chances and try to catch my first largemouth of the year at Lake Desire. I took my buddy Tyler out with me for his first fishing trip of the year.

We started out the day trying for largemouth. We were pitching jigs at docks, lay downs, and any sort of cover we could find. I tossed a spinnerbait, drop shot, 5" stickbait on a wacky jig head, jerkbait, etc etc. After about 3 hours we decided to try to catch some rainbow trout that were recently planted.

When we started the sun was high and just starting to slowly fall. We still had a couple days of daylight. We trolled around for a bit and got nothing. We made our way to one side of the lake and saw some trout busting the surface and decided to fan cast the general area. We must have come across a small school because Tyler got a lot of action in a short 20 minute window or so. Tyler hooked up with 5 rainbows. He got 2 in the boat, 2 spit the hooks right at the boat and one spit the hooks mid fight. During this time I had one bite but it spit the hooks within 3 seconds of setting the hook.

We kept trying for a while and had no action but consistently saw fish busting the surface. After about an hour I finally hooked into one and got it in the boat.

It was a tough day of fishing but I'm just glad that I finally got the skunk off of my back. But I'm even more glad that my buddy Tyler got some action today. I would have been super disappointed if I invited him out and dragged him to Lake Desire and he got skunked.

We saw a ton of boats there, well over 6 boats as well as a few people on pontoons. I saw one boat tossing a spinnerbait for bass. I didn't see anyone catch while we were there. The fish seemed to just start biting as everyone was leaving.

Third paragraph, second sentence reads: "We still had a couple days of daylight. We trolled around for a bit and got nothing". Dude, that is a lot of daylight! Were you fan casing in Alaska?
