I was out on Sunday afternoon from about 3:30 - 6:30 pm with only 1 stocker rainbow to show for it. I did have a couple other short strikes. I was fishing the West side of the lake in my belly boat, pulling arouns a black leach patter. When I fisrt stared trolling, I hooked up with something BIG. It never left the bottom and it stripped my fly line into my backing twice. I got the line about half way back in the second time (I'd say I was fighting the fish for about 8 minutes) when the hook pulled out. I was really bummed not to have at least seen it. The way it was fighting, it could only have been 2 things (in my mind), a large brown trout or a carp. I guess I'll never know. I will be back out there to try again. Not sure what's up with all the stockers, but I thought I'd have caught a few more with as much water as I covered. A guy and his son in a canoe went all over the lake, and they were completely skunked. Not even a bump. Water did not seem to be too cold. It was a great afternoon none the less!

Sorry for leaving 2 posts. I was trying to edit some mis-spelled words, but I guess once you submit, it's done.

A few years back. While float tubing in Greenlake. I had the exact same experience while towing a fly around. Was playing a big fish for better than 5 minutes! Different groups of walkers would stop, and move on. I was thinking, big brown trout. Well, it was brown alright. About 5 pounds of carp! Damn good fighter..........many line screaming runs. Kind of disappointing, but the fight was impressive. So, I guess in the end, not that disappointing. Sure made the decision to release it easier.

Motoboat, thanks for posting that comment about having the same experience. Kind of makes me feel better thinking it was probably a carp, but I'll bet there are some NICE browns out there as well. Either way, I would have liked to at least get a visual. Will definitely have to try some night fishing for browns during the hot months. Do we have hot months here? :)
