Decided to try my luck at Sequalitchew Lake on Fort Lewis this morning. The species I was trying to catch was crappie. Hit the water motivated to catch my crappie creel limit....well at least that was goal. Unfortunately, after combing the entire lake thrice, I got nothing. I fished brush piles and structures. Also my fish finder alarmed twice and I saw very small fish but that was it. I think I saw 4ea beavers or it could have been otters. Maybe they are eating the fish. I'm not certain. Water temp was 47-48 degrees maybe that had something to do with it. The depth average was 6-10 feet and 15-19 feet in a few isolated spots. There were others fishing as well and they were having zero luck. Maybe its still too cold for crappie, I will try this lake again once the temp goes up. Tomorrow, I will try Lewis Lake for the elusive Washington State crappie. Open for any fishing lakes or pothole recommendations that hold crappie. Keep fishing and love life!

We didn't do any better on the east side yesterday. Water is just turning over in the Basin. Should pick up when the water is warmer.

A few years back I had the opportunity to bass fish that lake with a retired military friend. Though the biggest we caught was under three pounds, we sure caught a bunch. We fished mostly spinnerbait and weightless plastics.

FishinChristian, yes it was pretty slow on the entire lake. I did enjoy trying out my new inflatable pontoon boat. Look forward to the warmer water temps. Rickydbasser, tried my entire tackle box and nothing. Would love to land a three pounder. I also tried Lewis lake today and it yeild the same results. However, it looks very promising with the sturcture and a few drop off points. Hope to see yo both on the water. Happy easter to you both.

Still pretty cold water for the LM. As shallow as that lake is, it should warm up fast. Another month and it could be gangbusters. Its also nice to fish a lake that every basser and their brother can't fish.

I caught a bunch of crappie out of Cat Lake on Ft. Lewis last year on Mr. Twister soft plastics. They were all around 6" in length, gave them to my buddy and he had himself a nice little fish fry.

Garrity 99.......I would love to try cat lake. Where on Fort Lewis is it located? Were you fishing from shore or boat?

Have you caught crappie out of Sequalichew before. I have fished for years and done ok on LMs and bluegill but never a crappie. Johnsons marsh has em. But after the spawn they are hard to come by.

Mr Fittin,

I have not had any luck this year Sequalichew.....I'm told there are crappie on the end up by the water plant....although I have not caught any. Went to Johnson Marsh today....to try for crappie, but only caught one trout on crappie nibblet and pink jig. Not sure if I was in the right area....the only area I was able to access was over by the water outlet. Still in search of the crappie magic spot....thus far only Silver lake has been the spot.
