As it goes, I was due for a trip like today with my mentor an good friend Joe Schmidt A.K.A fishinChristian to walakers. We hitched up his 2 person rig and headed up to Banks to see if we could catch a crappie or two. The trip was great, but as we passed Big Walleys, we noticed that the lake was still down about 3 feet. I got that sinking feeling becuase in years past, Banks needed to be at full pool for crappie to stage in the back water bays prior to the spawn. We launced at Steamboat Rock to give it a try, but the water temp (43 degrees) So after an hour on the water, we gave it up with nary a bite. We then headed back west and stopped by the Winchester Canal where both Joe and I hooked and lost a fish. Joe's was a huge rainbow that took a hook and worm, but it broke his line! We managed to salvage a trout a piece at Burke Lake on the way back. I caught my first rainbow on my new "Stone Dragun" jig (see below). It was Good company, great trip but not so good weather that put a kabash on an other wise awesome day! Thanks again Joe! Jiggy

Ouch. 2 weeks ago Banks was full. They must still be toying with water flows.

As always, a pleasure to fish with you, and trade anecdotes. Tough day with every kind of weather, but no tornadoes! The singer you asked about was Nicole C. Mullins by the way (yes, I am atavistic, I still spell it out). Your Stone Dragun caught 50% of all fish landed that day!

Is it just me, or does the whole Basin seem a little off this year (so far)? Perhaps it is the water temps, the weather, or the water flows, but it just doesn't seem to want to get going....

Basin, Yakima valley, etc...
The bass are early, trout on schedule, but the rest seem late, sort of torpid. Nice big bass though when you get 'em.

Does anybody know the best area to fish for trout or wallys at Banks. My wife and I are heading there in 2 weeks from Everett
