Like West Medical, I fished Clear often due to it's close proximity to the town of Medical Lake and relative closeness to Spokane. Clear lake, as usual, proved to be an aquatic jewel, with it's large, over-fed Rainbows and it's aggressive Browns. During the early months of the season, I did well with shades of olive and black wooley buggers, Carey Specials and Muddler Minnows. Later in the season, when water temperatures rise and more hatches are apparent, I typically rely on various sizes and colors of Damselfly Nymph. Dry fly offering can draw strikes in the cool hours of evening. Chironomids are present at all times and if fish slowly under a strike indicator can lead to a take as well. Over all Clear lake has been a constant fish factory for many years and I don't expect that to change anytime soon.
If a fisherman is equipped with the necessary offerings and has the knowledge to know how to present it and where, there is always a better than average shot at landing trophy size trout. As long as there are folks unequipped and unaware, there will always be a plethora of healthy trout for the rest of us. I give Clear lake two "THUMBS UP", remember to always catch and release.
