There aren't many days on Priest lake that you can see the reflection of Mtn. ranges on the lake but this was one of them so we took advantage of the glassy water to do some jigging with glow squid tipped with herring, I preffer pikeminnow as it stays on the hook longer but its all we had. There were plenty of fish off the east side of Bartoo Island and they many seemed to be in the 180-190ft range. We ended up boating 3 fish. When the lake gets going we can expect to catch our limit of 6 each within a few hours but it was a good start of the season. Kokanee fishing is now open on Priest and I hear fish measuring in the low 20" range is no uncommon.

How long has the ice been off? Just curious about the Kokanee fishing. Do you have any secrets on when, where, and how to fish for them on that lake? Sounds like a good time! Boy, that is great country to fish in with the scenery about as nice as it gets!

As far as I know it's been ice free as of a few weeks. The ramps are still shallow but the lake is filling up quick. Kokanee fishing is relatively new to me in Priest Lake due to it's closure in the 80's but I know they get big. As far as I can tell they have been scattered through out the system in the 60-30ft range. I've heard through the grapevine that they will run into the shallows between upper and lower Priest Lake and the outlet of Priest River. I would try small spoons like castmasters and super dupers. ***Just a heads the JH Covey Memorial Spring Salmon Derby is almost here, April 14th-15th on Lake Coeur d' Alene, $1000 guaranteed to 1st place***

You have any idea when the macks start to head back down in the water column? I'm thinking about heading up there in three weeks and am wondering what to depth to run. What setup do you use when they're near the surface?
