Met up with fishing buddy, "Motoboat" launched at that launch located just S. of Seward Park, I forget the name. FYI... they've gone up to 10 bucks.
We almost didn't leave the house, due to a lot of rain. However once we launched it never really rained. No wind, etc. Lately that made me feel lucky.
Started out trolling my go to Green Splatter back mini hootchie, from Ace High Fly, behind a small chrome dodger. Moto was using maybe Krocodile spoon? Later he used a strange baitfish looking fly thing that I had in the box, with a Rocky Moutain dodger. No fish hit either of us. We saw a fair amount of schooled fish, I was thinking perch, but I don't perch fish and don't know what to look for there. These schools were mostly at 50-60' in 110' of water.
We covered the S. tip of Mercer Is. and headed down toward just out front of Coulon. Around that area I had put on a green Coho Killer behind my dodger. I have never fished salmon gear for these cutts, seemed a little big on the hook size. Although I've got E. WA. Lahontin on salmon plugs, oh well. So I picked up a fat cutt. right out from Coulon. 40' on the rigger in 80' of water. The fish never alerted me to his presence of the rigger. I was just going to pick up and move, but the gear felt heavy coming in. He got all the way to the boat with only a few head shakes. (hooked by the skin of his lip too) My dig. camera is missing, and my smartphone does not want to coooperate with mailing the pic. Measured only 15.5", but had large shoulders. I thought about 1 lb 7 oz. I had to go with a 3 star rating, because the cutt. fishery on lake WA. is more often a skunk for me.
