What a beautiful day, so we went to Riffe lake. Stopped by the Cowlitz first by the salmon hatchery, didnt seem like much was going on. Got to Riffe and fished next to the dam. Brought some worms and shrimp, first cast my bf gets a fish, 2nd cast he gets another. I thought we were going to limit quick, but for some reason despite my set up being identical to my fishing partner I didnt get a bite, but after his 2nd fish he never got another bite either. We were fishing with cocktail shrimp and a piece of worm about 9ft under a slip bobber. Fished awhile longer with nuttin, talked to some other guys they caught a few and never had another bite too. After a few hours we went up to the fishing bridge but the water is so low in the lake that it was a river under the bridge so we gave up quick after no bites and lots of snags. We went back down to the dam to fish a bit more before we had to drive home. Didnt take long for me to finally get a bite, my bobber didnt get pulled down, i just noticed it slowly floating in the opposite direction. Set the hook and brought in a 18in clipped fish. It was hook jawed and squirting milt, and its adipose fin was clipped. I wasnt sure what it was, because if it was a coho its spawning time is wayyy off, and the smaller coho we caught were not clipped. I thought maybe a winter steelhead? But it had no color to it, and I have no idea how it would get above the dam. I am still unsure exactly what it is. Lemme know what you guys think.
