Had some free time today, so Cindy and I headed up to Rufus Woods. Got on the water 1030-1100 and fishd for a couple of hours. We launched at the Corps launch at the lower end, and ran up to the cabin hole, a couple of duck hunter set-ups there, so we flushed some waterfowl while cruising upriver a bit, then ran back down to pump Three area. Bank fishers there, so we drifted the deeper water (15-20' deep) out beyond their cast range, then ran on down to pump 1 area. We fished from shoreline out to about 25 feet deep, and got bites mostly in the 8-12 feet depth. SLow presentation was the key. We got bit on jigs (dark color) and Super rooster tails. We didn't get any hits on spoons or any follows. The bites were scatered, and no more than one in an area. We brought 5 to boatside and had some long distance releases plus several hits. The fish were in the 2 1/2 - 3 pound range. Since we were using single barbless hooks and artificial lures, we were able to C&R. No fish to clean tonite :). Surface water temp ranged from 36* - 39* depending on the location.
Stay warm, stay safe, and enjoy the great outdoors
