Made my first trip out to Hog Canyon for the winter. The ice was about 4.5 inches thick with lots of moaning and cracking noises. Not the most comforting sounds so I stayed fairly close to the shoreline.
I jigged a black conehead wolly bugger in about feet of water. On about the 10 jig, I had a nice grab. The fish fought hard for about 5 seconds till the hook pulled out. A few minutes later, the guy next to me landed a nice 16 inch fish on a similar pattern. The next two hours were met with little action.
In talking with anglers coming off the ice from further down the lake, fishing was pretty slow with results ranging from getting skunked to a couple of fish.
This week calls for warm weather and rain so I would stay off the ice until we freeze hard for a few days.
