Hello my fellow and lady fisherman! This is kind of a summary of my guide trips on the Lk. this year. Spring was fabulous, as usual, but I'd rate it a B compared to large fish overall, that we caught in comparison to last year. Weather had a LOT to do with that as it was very windy and cooler this May- June spawn season. A couple new baits that were quite successful this year were the Senko and drop shotting on beds! We took 2 over 5 lbs and many many 4,s and 3,s!!
The summer bite from July - August was the BEST I've seen in quite a few years here. The larger fish were packing up in schools and we had many HEY-DAYS! Again dropshotting techniques were quite successful along with tubes , Jerk Baits, lizards, and a few other secrets, hopefully, I can show you next season!!
The fall bite was ho-hum again as usual from Sept.- Oct. That's why I like to take clients to Banks Lk and Lk Umatilla on the Columbia this time of year. I am proud to say though , that there wasn't an angler that fished with me who didn't catch at least 3 fish in one outing. That was my low for the year.
Good Luck to all of you and I hope to see you at the Sportsman's Shows to get on some early bookings at Lake Whatcom! It REALLY Truly is one of the Best Smallmouth fishery's in our state!!
God Bless,
Mike Carney
