Had to fish American Lake after reading all of Toni's reports. Left early to find the WDFW launch and got to the gate at 0638 - it was open! The forcast was sunny and no chance of rain. They didn't say that the fog was going to be so thick that you couldn't see the boat in front of you! Oh well; followed a boat out and hooked a 16 incher (at 18 feet in 50 feet of water) right off the bat! By the time I netted it, the other boat was out of sight. Here I was, sitting in fog on a new lake. Droid GPS and Google maps to the rescue! I was in the middle of the lake south of the big island. Fog lifted about 0900, but the bite was over. The cooler lid is 18 1/2" wide. I will be back!

Thank you for the report. OK now you have caught a bigger fish than I have. ;-) I had trouble finding them yesterday but I may be spoiled.

Sorry, Toni. I really think it was beginner's luck - new lake, new rod and lost in the fog! But, I was a good "student" by following your lead. Just read your last report. You were surprised to catch a koke with a spinner near surface? Fella told me at Alder last week he was pulling kokes trolling popgear and a threaded worm! Go figure. Kokes are plankton eaters?

I was catching them on a 4" Rapala last week (one of my not so secret any more, weapons), go figure.

Read a study done on kokes that indicates they are extremely territorial and will attack anything that they feel as threatening.

If that study is correct then something that makes noise will cause more strikes. Or something in there face, like a jig. But then I would have to find them first instead of trolling until they find me. This is very interesting.
