I went to Lake Cassidy today 1:30pm until dark. I had my poles stolen out of my storage unit last Friday so was trying new Shakesphere spinning rod/reel combo with 8lb test line that came with it. Well, lets just say they over filled the reel...I had nest after nest...finally got thru 2 big ones and got the reel working right. IT WAS WINDY blowing from North to South...so I put in at the launch and went with the breeze. I had one top water rapala perch swirl but missed the lure as I drifted by the lilly pads. I ended up in the pads to keep from moving and cast a bit. At first dock I tried the top water rapala and black buzz bait 1/8 oz. I got no bites on top water rapala after a few twitches so decided to reel it back and FISH ON! Got at 12.5" Bass after good fight. Fought the wind mostly down that side and had one hit on top water rapala but was pretty slow and thought I saw white caps. I made it around the corner of lake towards channel and tried the buzz bait pretty heavily...I got one 12" and then next cast another one 12.5" largemouth bass. Nice to get them on back to back casts and in middle of lilly pads. I made it to channel and tried that and end of lake that is shallow no luck one hit on buzz bait but he missed it.
I worked my way along and in those pads but no luck and wind finally died at 5pm. I got back to top water perch rapala and got one 10" bass. And about 2 casts later was in front of lilly pads and no luck on twitch so started to reel and FISH ON! another 12.5" Bass. Seems like they were in a chasing mood. Ran into a guy in kayak he was casting worms out about 30 ft in front of lilly pads and catching perch, crappie and a few small bass. I tried some rat L trap casts out deep and top water minnow and no luck.
All in all pretty slow day with wind and all but hits were agressive so they are still biting. I ended up with 5 largemouth bass 12.5" two, 12" two and one 10". I only had about 6 or 7 other bites. Only fished to right of launch and about 1/3 way back on other side. (before public dock from bike trail)
All fish catch and released. Sorry no photo's today.
