Had a great time fishing with guide Shelby Ross of Ross Outdoor Adventures (a guide sponsor on this site, 509.750.7763 ). Shelby took Aaron and myself out to some of the backwater dunes that are only reach-able this time of year via his air boat. First, let me say that seeing the pothole dunes in an air boat is an amazing adventure and well worth it if you ever get the opportunity. You'll be able to get into multiple locations that are blocked off from the main lake as the water drops during the summer. Shelby tells me that September and October can be great times to go as there is no fising pressure whatsoever on these fish.
We spend the afternoon to sunset casting mostly senkos and some spinner bait. It wasn't on fire but the quality was very good. We caught several in the 3-3.5 pound range. Aaron ended the day with a MONSTER crappie that I believe was 15"?
I know it's hard to leave the Puget Sound area when the salmon fishing is turning on, but this really is a fun trip and one you should consider if you're at all interested in catching lunker largemouth and getting back in the dunes.
