Got to the lake and put in around 9:30am. Main goal of the trip was to learn and get a feeling for downriggers. We'd just finished tightening the last bolts that morning and had never used them before and thought what the heck let's go to the lake.
Beautiful day out on the water, wind was gusty at times but wasn't too cold yet. Surface temp was 65 in the morning warming up to 67 by the time we left around 3:30.
So we trolled all along the mission bay, 20-40 feet, then exiting the bay down to 60-70 feet. Went out and around in the area outside the bay but didn't find any big schools of fish that were biting. Headed back into the bay and right there at the merging area had a hookup with this fish in the picture. Was using a rushin wobbler in blue with a plain pattern. Was a good hookup, used a single barbless hook and didn't have any issues. I was 125 feet back and 60ft down if the line counter and down rigger are fairly accurate.
Only negative about the trip was loading the boat. The water is down another 2-3 feet since I was last there in August and it made the loading ramp uneven. It ran out of concrete and the sand is pitted and sloped making loading a pain for us.
I hope I can get up there more and learn where the fish are hiding :) Didn't have any bites using a kingfisher spoon in the same areas as the rushin wobbler. Maybe another time.
