I decided to take myself for a float on Liberty Lake today. I was on the water by 7:30 A.M. and started trolling leaded line with a small Cowbell and a Red Spinning Fly. A lure I haven't used since the 60's. 15 minutes out I hooked and landed a 7" largemouth. Cute, but not what I was after. I switched to an Triple Teaser in chrome with a red head and drug that to the south end of the lake. Then I switched to an F-7 Perch Scale Flatfish and trolled north up the west side of the lake. About 1/4 of the way up the west side I turned toward the center of the lake and deeper water. Got a good strike but he didn't like the looks of the boat and he came off before I could get a look at him. I switched from the flatfish to a white Magic with a red border and a red spot. With 3 1/2 colors of leaded line out, I hooked and landed 4 respectable perch. Each about 8" long. It was a great day on the water with mayfly shucks covering the surface of the lake. I only fished till about noon, and the hatch lasted the whole time I was there. The waterskiers were not a problem today. It was Wednesday and those that did show up gave the few fishing boats that were there a wide berth.
