Well once again the campground was booked out for the opener. 16,000 trout in the lake with hundreds of eager anglers. The fishing derby was a great success with over 60% of the entries coming from the youngsters. The average catch from these kids was 4 trout per rod. Over $400.00 dollars worth of prizes went out. From your basic fishing packages to fly sets. Congratulations to all the winners. Of the 70 people I polled on the opener over 60% had there limits. 30% had at least 3 and the other 10% had 2 or less. The weather was beautiful with a little wind picking up in the late morning.
All of the folks I talked to seem to enjoy themselves a great deal. With the opener being a family tradition, and the importance of some quality time spent with there kids or grand kids. One fella I talked to seem to sum it up, as a chance for him and his kids to get together spend some time on the water and get a little camping in. The importance was not if they caught fish but shared some family fun.
The folks I polled this weekend of 5/4/03 seen an average catch of 3-5 fish per rod. With some very nice size to them. There doesn't yet appear to be a specific pattern as to where they are, folks seem to be picking them up all over the lake, with bank anglers and boaters being successful. There are still plenty of openings in the campground on the weekends for those of you wanting to test your skill. I myself hope to be out on the water this next weekend. Hope to see you out there.
