Took a pass on hitting the Sound today and spent some time on the lake with the wife and our two dogs. Started fishing around 10:00am and ended up hooking into a bunch of sockeye that seem to have infested the area. Most self released near the boat with a combination of a little extra rod pressure and the small hooks I was using. We took a break, hit Kidd Valley for lunch then ran to the mouth of the Cedar River to let the dogs frolic in the shallows for a bit. Picked up trolling again heading north from the mouth of the Cedar with the wind having picked up out of the northwest. I changed tactics to discourage the sockeye from picking up my gear and hooked up a Brad’s Mini Cutplug running it at a fairly quick pace. This set up finally yielded a nice cut in the 20” range that hit at 60’ down. Released the fish after a quick pic and called it a day before it became too much of a zoo on the lake. The surface temps ranged between 71 and 75 degrees and the weed beds look to be about 80% of what they normally are this time of year.

I think the silver fishing will be an effort in futility, but with the lake so close, I'll be out there at least a few times to try and crack that nut.

Thanks for the report G-man. Awfully pretty fish. I want one!
I was gonna go trolling on Lake Wa. with another Walakes member today, but he had some issues that took priority...Bank fishing is yielding more action for me as well recently...

Thanks for the nice pic G-man! I just got a boat (16' 1973 Mutiny) and I bought a couple Penn 620's off eBay. Been dreaming of learning the cutthroat fishery for a few years now and finally got my boat so I'll be out (probably with my son) in the months to come trying to learn the fishery. I'll be in the black and orange bayliner with the black wake tower and the Penn's mounted near the back. By the way, what size downrigger weights work best on Lake Washington? They don't seem to be cheap so I want to make sure I get the right gear!

If you are just going to use them in lake fishing situations, an 8lb ball/weight would work just fine. However, if you plan on using them in the salt as well, 12lb would be better. You could probably get away with less than 8, as one normally doesn't fish more than 60' down and run more than 2mph, I've just never tried it.
