Put in despite the wind, but it soon died down. This September
weather is keeping the fish lethargic, but managed to hook up with a few
perch and a small cutt trolling a tuft of deer hair. Was dragging it on 12
feet of leader along the overhang, dodging logs &c., as slow as I could,
when WHAM and hoo man do I mean WHAM! Now, I'm fishing with this old bamboo
fly rod, right? It's crooked and limp as a noodle but still a little stiffer
than the line. And it's got this old brass reel on it that only holds so
much line...well, this fish runs me right into my backing and *thunk* the
knot hangs up on the first guide. Can't believe I didn't lose it! It kept
shooting low but I hung on and finally boated a chunky 15" 'bow. It was so
pretty! I plum wore it out, too--kept to my hand for quite a while before
swimming off. These 'bows are getting FAT!
Tight lines...
